One of the first important things to do after setting up NodeBB is to set up an emailer plugin. While NodeBB does include a local emailer, if your forum is particularly active we recommend using an third-party emailer such as SendGrid which provides better deliverability for sites that send a high volume of email. Setting up SendGrid in NodeBB is very easy.

Open the administrative dashboard using the 'gear' icon on your forum. Open the Extend > Plugins menu, and select the Find Plugins tab. Use the search on the right. Type 'SendGrid' and the plugin should appear -- select Install when you see it. From Installed tab on the Plugins menu, search again for 'SendGrid' and select Activate. Activating the plugin will require a restart of your forum. To restart, select the Dashboard menu and press the Restart button to the right. After NodeBB restarts, the SendGrid plugin will be active.

After you restart, there should be a item called Emailer (SendGrid) under the Plugins menu -- if you don't see this right away, try refreshing your browser.

    Sign up to SendGrid

Go to the SendGrid website, open the pricing page and scroll to the bottom. Click on the link and create your free account. Once you've confirmed your SendGrid account via email, you should be able to login to the SendGrid website. On the left side of your SendGrid dashboard, open Settings and click on API Keys. Click the button in the top right to create a new key. Make sure that the key has Full Access for Send Mail and Alerts.  When you are done, the new key to your clipboard.

Now, return to the SendGrid menu on your NodeBB admin panel. Paste the API key into the field, and save your changes. Now go back to the Dashboard to restart your forum one more time.

SendGrid should now be working for your forum.

Quick start plugin has an example on how to add a new api route https://github.com/NodeBB/nodebb-plugin-quickstart/blob/master/library.js#L40-L76.

The hooks that are fired client side are for client side code in plugins. If you want to pass data from the client to the server you have two options.

Create an api route like in quick start plugin Create a new socket event listener on the server side and use socket.emit() client side. Example here

@zipang yes of course we'll support Node 8 but to do so we have to drop support for all Node versions prior to v6. You can understand why we'd be hesitant to do so so quickly after our last major version release.

This sounds like an error in the app and not with NodeBB itself.

So after researching a little more I found my answer inside the plugin.json of the quickstart-plugin.

    "staticDirs": { "images": "./images" },

Adding a staticDirs key inside the plugin.json like that adds the static dirs inside /assets/plugins/your-plugin-name/.

We do return the ip but only for admins and mods.

    post.ip = topicPrivileges.isAdminOrMod ? post.ip : undefined; take a look here

Keep in mind IP tracking needs to be turned on in the ACP for this to work.

So, I just tested leaving the allowed filetypes-field blank (ergo allowing everything) and that worked. The mov-file gets uploaded flawlessly.

    But interestingly the response is:

    name: "sample.mov" path: "/opt/bitnami/apache2/htdocs/public/uploads/files/1496310135527-sample.qt" url: "/assets/uploads/files/1496310135527-sample.qt"

Adding just the mov extension to the allowed file-extensions blocks it again.

Now the response suggests to me somehow, that nodebb is converting the uploaded file to a .qt-file.

So I just added the qt-extension to the allowed files and it works.

It's really weird behavior, but I found a solution. Thanks for participating everyone!

Problem solved. It was the nodebb-plugin-cash who caused the problem.

After deleting this plugin my NodeBB worked again 🙂

@baris said in Changes to theme .tpl files don't show live:

@Jarko Yes the id field in plugin.json is not used, you need to change the name field in package.json

...and that was the issue indeed! Thank you! 💃

Hi everyone, just set up my nodebb, and there are two problems I cannot fix on my own, It will be great if I can have some help here.

1 > Is there any way for me to add some new attributes for the users myself? Like, forum coin, every time a new account created, attribute forum coin=0 attach to that account.

I don't have too much experience on the web development, so my first thought was to create a new schema in the database for the user, and try to implement the new value, and make it visible on the page. But immediately I realized that the mongodb don't have a fixed schema, so apparently it is a wrong way to go to start from the database.

2> I accidentally deleted the user uid=3, is there any way for me to regain the number, 3? I created user uid=4, and tried to update the _key and uid into 3 in mongodb, but eventually the account uid=4 just disappear from the forum altogether. I know this is kind of dangerous so never mind if it's difficult.

    Thanks @PitaJ

I installed Node manually this way which worked perfect. Then continued with NodeBB guide & NPM install worked

curl -o- https://raw.githubusercontent.com/creationix/nvm/v0.32.0/install.sh | bash Reboot machine . ~/.nvm/nvm.sh Determine what version of Node to install nvm install 6.10.3 check version is installed by running
    node -e "console.log('Running Node.js ' + process.version)"

    Thank you

@suparomana said in Websocket connection problems via ssl on special port:

Apache 2.2 can not handle websockets

Ahh, thanks. Okay, that makes sense now. It sounds like it's failing because of the special port. Since that port is sending directly to NodeBB and not through the Apache proxy, NodeBB does not know the SSL key, so it will fail the connection.

I think there used to be a way to feed the SSL Key path to NodeBB in config.json, but I don't see any docs on it anymore, and I'm not even sure if that would work.

I think your best bet is to try getting websockets to work through Apache2, there seems to be several methods even though there's no official support.
