    One of the first important things to do after setting up NodeBB is to set up an emailer plugin. While NodeBB does include a local emailer, if your forum is particularly active we recommend using an third-party emailer such as SendGrid which provides better deliverability for sites that send a high volume of email. Setting up SendGrid in NodeBB is very easy.

    Open the administrative dashboard using the 'gear' icon on your forum. Open the Extend > Plugins menu, and select the Find Plugins tab. Use the search on the right. Type 'SendGrid' and the plugin should appear -- select Install when you see it. From Installed tab on the Plugins menu, search again for 'SendGrid' and select Activate. Activating the plugin will require a restart of your forum. To restart, select the Dashboard menu and press the Restart button to the right. After NodeBB restarts, the SendGrid plugin will be active.

    After you restart, there should be a item called Emailer (SendGrid) under the Plugins menu -- if you don't see this right away, try refreshing your browser.

    Sign up to SendGrid

    Go to the SendGrid website, open the pricing page and scroll to the bottom. Click on the link and create your free account. Once you've confirmed your SendGrid account via email, you should be able to login to the SendGrid website. On the left side of your SendGrid dashboard, open Settings and click on API Keys. Click the button in the top right to create a new key. Make sure that the key has Full Access for Send Mail and Alerts.  When you are done, the new key to your clipboard.

    Now, return to the SendGrid menu on your NodeBB admin panel. Paste the API key into the field, and save your changes. Now go back to the Dashboard to restart your forum one more time.

    SendGrid should now be working for your forum.

    Quick start plugin has an example on how to add a new api route https://github.com/NodeBB/nodebb-plugin-quickstart/blob/master/library.js#L40-L76.

    The hooks that are fired client side are for client side code in plugins. If you want to pass data from the client to the server you have two options.

    Create an api route like in quick start plugin Create a new socket event listener on the server side and use socket.emit() client side. Example here

    @azeus I'm also about to upgrade from 1.4.4. to 1.5.0. What steps did you take to install? I'm kind of nervous!

    Like usual

    $ cd /nodebb_Home
    $ git fetch
    $ git checkout v1.5.x
    $ ./nodebb upgrade

    And of course backup before 😉

    Worked perfectly! Thank you!

    Your url value in config.json has to be the url at which you access your forum

    Your version of Node.js is too outdated for NodeBB. Please update your versi

    In case it isn't obvious what you should do, install Node.js version 6. You can Google how to do this.

    I am new in nodebb, but I really like it. The only problem I have encountered so far is the card slider. Could you tell me how I can add this so my "Recent topics" look exaclty the same way as in the community.nodebb.org?

    I hope it helps someone:

    I wanted to do this, so I landed upon this thread. I had already created nginx proxy for my domain. So I basically just added /discuss (or whatever location you want)

    server { listen 443; listen [::]:443; server_name site.com; access_log off; error_log /var/log/nginx/site.com-error.log; open_file_cache max=2000 inactive=20s; open_file_cache_valid 60s; open_file_cache_min_uses 5; open_file_cache_errors off; ###################################################################### ## SSL Configuration ## ## Only use this block if you are setting up the SSL (HTTPS) server ## definition of your site. ###################################################################### ssl on; ssl_certificate /etc/letsencrypt/live/site/fullchain.pem; ssl_certificate_key /etc/letsencrypt/live/site/privkey.pem; ssl_session_timeout 5m; ssl_protocols SSLv3 TLSv1; ssl_ciphers ALL:!ADH:!EXPORT56:RC4+RSA:+HIGH:+MEDIUM:+LOW:+SSLv3:+EXP; ssl_prefer_server_ciphers on; location /discuss { proxy_pass http://127.0.0.1:4567/; proxy_redirect off; proxy_set_header Host $host; proxy_set_header X-Real-IP $remote_addr; proxy_set_header X-Forwarded-For $proxy_add_x_forwarded_for; proxy_set_header X-Forwarded-Proto $scheme; } # Custom 404 error_page 404 = /404.html; }

    However, there are many other issues.

    If I specify in config.json url as site.com/forum or something, css files don't load.

    If I don't, if you click on anything, it will try to go to site.com/post/2/something instead of site.com/forum/post/2 etc.

    I upgraded from v1.4.6 to v1.5.0. Everything is working well, however, I cannot access my widgets under extend. When I click on widgets, the loading line goes about 75 percent and theit the loading icon keeps spinning without going anywhere !

    @PitaJ said in Global Header ends up below Breadcrumb besides in Categories page:

    Make sure you're editing the templates within the theme directory, and not within the build/public/templates directory

    Try copying the files over from your server and ensuring that they are indeed edited.

    As I've written above, I've created the new theme by duplicating the folder "nodebb-theme-persona" in nodebb/node_modules, then renaming the new folder. So that's where I'm editing 😄

    I've also checked whether the upload was successful - it is, files are edited. Is it possible this has to do with some caching issue in the server? Or perhaps how I created this theme - not by installing it through the command npm?

    Quick question:

    I've done upgrades from 1.4.1 to 1.4.2, etc. But, not 1.4 to 1.5 revisions.

    I'm also a step behind, as I'm on 1.4.4 and not 1.4.5.

    Do I need to install 1.4.5 before upgrading to 1.5.0? What's the easiest set of commands to take care of that, if so?

    Looks like pagination is broken in 1.5.0? A few of my users reported issues, but I can't even enable pagination on my forums.

    See these issues on Github:

    Guess this isn't possible. I looked at the badges addon that supposedly could do this but can't seem to figure out how to get it to work.
