One of the first important things to do after setting up NodeBB is to set up an emailer plugin. While NodeBB does include a local emailer, if your forum is particularly active we recommend using an third-party emailer such as SendGrid which provides better deliverability for sites that send a high volume of email. Setting up SendGrid in NodeBB is very easy. Open the administrative dashboard using the 'gear' icon on your forum. Open the Extend > Plugins menu, and select the Find Plugins tab. Use the search on the right. Type 'SendGrid' and the plugin should appear -- select Install when you see it. From Installed tab on the Plugins menu, search again for 'SendGrid' and select Activate. Activating the plugin will require a restart of your forum. To restart, select the Dashboard menu and press the Restart button to the right. After NodeBB restarts, the SendGrid plugin will be active. After you restart, there should be a item called Emailer (SendGrid) under the Plugins menu -- if you don't see this right away, try refreshing your browser. Sign up to SendGrid Go to the SendGrid website, open the pricing page and scroll to the bottom. Click on the link and create your free account. Once you've confirmed your SendGrid account via email, you should be able to login to the SendGrid website. On the left side of your SendGrid dashboard, open Settings and click on API Keys. Click the button in the top right to create a new key. Make sure that the key has Full Access for Send Mail and Alerts.  When you are done, the new key to your clipboard. Now, return to the SendGrid menu on your NodeBB admin panel. Paste the API key into the field, and save your changes. Now go back to the Dashboard to restart your forum one more time. SendGrid should now be working for your forum. [image: youtubelogo.png] Setting up SendGrid mailer for NodeBB

I think you answered my point, by agreeing there are issues. I didn't even attempt to deploy nodebb, I had problems with much smaller projects! Nextjs routing was going through a change of design at the time, so perhaps that is less confusing now, but there were multiple other headaches. I would get build errors and issues with package management.

NodeBB version: 1.10.0 Database type: mongo Database version: 3.2.11 Hi, we have a critical situation here. In order to increase the speed, We replicated mongodb (master/slave mode; whotout sharding). It increased the speed for a few months But now it seems that the database is missing and all of the users, topics etc. ?? I don't know what cause this problem. Can we find out whether the database is missing or not?

Ahh yeah that's a bit confusing, the merge topic tool can be used between categories, so you should click merge first and then select the topics. The placement seems like a theme/skin issue.

@pitaj said in Adding javascript in the footer: Ok have you tried embedding the whole thing in the footer HTML? What is the script and stuff for? Analytics? Are there any alternatives that don't require a script? Yes, it breaks certain part when it is placed in that widget. It's so that when users from other countries click on the link for amazon they get redirected with the US referrer code link embedded their countries amazon store.

I changed the permissions and checked, as I said before. I even tried the alternative configuration from the NodeBB scaling guide. That didn't make any difference. There are missing directories and I don't know why. I'll delete NodeBB and move on. Thanks for trying to help guys.

@hoang6 go in to your nodebb folder, the logs are inside the logs folder, open output.log and paste the last 20-30 lines which should show the crash.

Please first check the data storage directories of your MongoDB. While doing some crazy tests and more or less intentionally made the MongoDB go crash I found at times that it "forgot" about the available data, even though there were still kind of big files probably with all the data. I don't know how to recover from there but I assume there would be some articles out there in the internet helping you with it. But yeah, mongodump, borg backup, lftp synchronize to remote drive (or similar). Every day. And if you're at it, make sure the backups on your local computer are working as intended as well

Solution: I've copied the catagories.tpl from Vanilla to Persona, enabling me to use Persona's mobile menu with Vanilla's categories style, both.

Thanks @baris I managed to fix it by disabling the plugin, which let me then edit the post and I've also replaced the plugin with one that's actually maintained. Thanks again for the help in locating this error.

Thanks @Giggiux. I don't see how you assign a category to a topic, either when you create the topic or at a later stage.

Hi All, My setup: 1.9.3 synced to master. I set up a plugin to listen and log action:notification.pushed events. It looks like notification events are fired only to recipients who are currently logged off. Two questions if I may: Is there a way to get a notification events for logged-in recipients as well? Are there any settings controlling these events. For example, allowing the plugin to set a timeout, so if the recipient does not see/respond, an event is fired? Thank you! JJ.

The folder is probably named /home/nodebb/nodebb not /path/to/nodebb so try. cd /home/nodebb/nodebb to go to the installation directory. If that gives the same error you can list the contents of the /home/nodebb directory by the ls command and find out the real name of the nodebb installation directory.

@pummelchen Thanks for the response. Ok for the solution, but If that's true, it's still strange behavior. My forum is in a test period so indeed it doesn't have much traffic, but I come by at least once a day to see just how frequent the error is. It means that if we go on vacation and nobody visits our forum for a few days, when we get back all the owners of a forum under nodeBB have chances to see this error? That's annoying.
