what's up minions of the night?? Figure since I do a lot of my site stuff after wife and kid are upstairs asleep I would make a late night thread..

Watching the Miami Chicago bball game and testing NodeBB on my ipad both here and on my forum.. It's a different vibe.. Feels more social media than forums, digging it.

Miami shit the bed tonight big time. I'm a Knicks fan so a fleeting moment of happiness beating Brooklyn but still overall a season of disappointment.

that looks very similar to Realm of a Mad God.. I've played that some.. addictive. I'm in the office now though since the NBA game is toast time to break the site some..

Server support is on night shift still working on the issue lol A+ they are really trying to do the right thing by me.

I am a tinkerer by nature. Cars, art, computers, etc.. and I had been looking for the logical progression away from vb forums for a loooong time now.. Xenforo pretended to innovate but it's same shit different day.. I'm glad to have stumbled onto NodeBB here in the early stages.

Now getting rid of me... lol good luck. Especially when the interface is begging to be typed on.

Can we use this as a quote on our homepage? 🙂

I think that was well said about VB and XF. Tried em' pull away from VB a loooooong time ago, then comes XF, blah, ugly. Wanted something edgy, innovative, (NOT PHP) and... fun. Found this 5 months ago and I'm glad I did. 🙂

@julian Of course. Years of php/mysql based forum experience and I don't want to log on to them now. I rather type by myself on a test forum seeding content because it flows that well.

@trevor I didn't care that it was not PHP/MySQL based but that intrigued me. I rather not horse around in the back end, that's one of the things I absolutely hate running vb communities, the constant bullshit.

Now that I've got the forum up other than working on the skin there is little to do other than why you log onto a community.. POST. 19 topics / 26 posts today on my test site today and I'm the only one there for now while I clean it up and get it a little more stylized.

I think that's what caught my attention so quickly. I didn't need to start another project. But once I saw the platform I wanted to.

I understand what you guys are saying about XF but it is a great improvement on vb which I have a license that I can not sell 😞
and I agree "Especially when the interface is begging to be typed on".

It's an improvement over vb but at this point that's not saying much. XF for all of it's newness still is basically a 10 year old forum running on the same concept of vb, phpbb, mybb, whatever forum of that genre.

Now you have NodeBB and Discourse as the two front runners for a new style of delivering a community experience. Exciting to see the game get stepped up. I think the average vb/xf site has dozens and dozens of plugins installed by the time it's all done, features that never get used, etc.

Why do so many people use Tapatalk on their vb/xf forums? Cause they both suck mobile. I've spent today on and off testing NodeBB with every device in the house (even the wife's Nook) and the user experience is lightning fast and you don't have to give up the look and feel.. It's much more akin to a bootstrap enabled WP site for keeping site continuity.

Didn't mean to go on a rant here.. I know we're all on this forum cause we like what's going on here.. This is my last post of the night it's 2:43am and the neighbors asshole kid is pretending he is in the next Fast and Furious movie so I have to go outside and tell him to shut the fuck up so I can get some sleep 🙂

Hey @StuartH -- I believe you can contact VB support and ask for a refund?

I don't think they do refunds after a certain amount of time has expired.

Yes the license is over two years old I think so would be surprised if I got a refund.

if it's late at night, why not!

Gonna play realm of the mad god first for 15-20 min then some theme work... First the Bigfoot silva fight on fox sports 1.. Slacking it was a long day with a sick toddler in the house.
