A sub categories set up would be very good especially for what I am planning, been trying to think the best look to it that would not destroy the simple layout, but would be obvious to a user.
How about when the cursor floats over a category it flips around with a sub cat list on the reverse??

New site on NodeBB hosting
Big thank you to all the guys at DesignCreatePlay for setting me up
Have to say it runs a lot smoother on your hosting than my test site on another host, I will post a link to the site once we are ready to roll. -
RE: My features essentials list
Just to clarify, and I don't mean to be redundant, but...
Spam protection during registration, yes.
Private messages would be nice.
I believe they are working on permissions, and groups are already implemented. Just needs some fine tuning.Uh, likes = favorites. If you want "Likes" (like Facebook), then the only thing I can think of for now is to change name variables from Favorites to Likes.
(I speak American English, so eventually I will change some verbiage around when I get to it, no offense Canada...)
As for the like/favorite I use this on my xenforo site

RE: Plugin ideas
What about a thread prefix plugin? It was mentioned on the admin extra forum as a alternative to sub categories which could work well I think.

NodeBB target users
Who are nodebb's target users??
What I mean is is it amid at webmasters or the average forum owner who has very little/no coding knowledge?Because I think you have a real potential winner here because it's simple un -bloated, fast, clean and fun to use just needs a few more forum essentials to complete a great piece of software.
But it is not easy to install and get working and I appreciate that for people who understand nodes, ubuntu etc it will be a piece of cake but for a lot of forum owners it could be a struggle to set up. I have done it and think it's running good now but I have had to be patient and persevere and a few times nearly gave up, I have all so tried to install Discourse but that was a even bigger struggle and I have given up.
(might be a idea to have the option of resizing the editing window for long winded posts like this).
Are you going to be able to code nodebb so that it can be a one click install or will it always have to be installed with multiple command line instructions? 1 click install will mean a lot more forum owners giving it a try and that must mean more income for you guys some where down the line (I hope anyway)
Have you considered making it a paid for software not at the rates the big boys charge but maybe a small $30-$50 which could include install on owners server? 20 days support then your on you own sort of package?
I know you are setting up a premium hosting service for the big forums but what about the small forums?
Just some thoughts -
Bookmarks
Are you planning on implementing some sort of book mark system because after a certain amount of posts in a topic it's going to get pretty tedious to keep scrolling down say 250 posts just to get to the latest post. or would pagination at say 100 posts be a solution?

RE: Might as well add another cog to my plan im on cent os
Congrats @outlawedoffroad just in case you missed it you need to install & run Forever Daemon to keep the forum running when you shut down your terminal.

@StuartH possibly looking into a better way to handle styling than using plugin -42 (no offense @bentael :D)... shoving CSS modifying javascript nto the footer is really a hack anyway...
Ok I will wait, ummm I've broken it again by the way

RE: Looking for a Xenforo alternative
@Dielan said:
Hello NodeBB community!
I am currently on a team that manages a web forum for a gaming community that's currently running Xenforo. We have been looking for alternatives to our forum and I was wondering if any of you have experiences you would like to share when it comes to migrating an existing Xenforo to NodeBB? Strongly considering trying out NodeBB!
Thank you in advance!
I am curious as to why you want to stop using xenforo for a gaming forum?
