@bentael yes they upgraded me yesterday, I've put my html in for a server status viewer but its taking an age to appear still was not showing a good 3 hours after putting the code in, unfortunately the site is down atm so I can not check if it is now working.

I have Ghostery, a tracker blocker and you are right whitlisted the site and all is well

What about a plugin for none devs to upload a background image to their site?

Clear the cache? I have been moding my gaming site (xenforo) and every change meant clear cache before then changes where visible (not a dev just my experience, not sure if it applies to nodebb)

Finaly I have my mac back, but it's going to take 6 hours to restore from back up zzzzzzzzzzz and that's just the mac side, bootcamp will be similar sort of time
