    One of the first important things to do after setting up NodeBB is to set up an emailer plugin. While NodeBB does include a local emailer, if your forum is particularly active we recommend using an third-party emailer such as SendGrid which provides better deliverability for sites that send a high volume of email. Setting up SendGrid in NodeBB is very easy.

    Open the administrative dashboard using the 'gear' icon on your forum. Open the Extend > Plugins menu, and select the Find Plugins tab. Use the search on the right. Type 'SendGrid' and the plugin should appear -- select Install when you see it. From Installed tab on the Plugins menu, search again for 'SendGrid' and select Activate. Activating the plugin will require a restart of your forum. To restart, select the Dashboard menu and press the Restart button to the right. After NodeBB restarts, the SendGrid plugin will be active.

    After you restart, there should be a item called Emailer (SendGrid) under the Plugins menu -- if you don't see this right away, try refreshing your browser.

    Sign up to SendGrid

    Go to the SendGrid website, open the pricing page and scroll to the bottom. Click on the link and create your free account. Once you've confirmed your SendGrid account via email, you should be able to login to the SendGrid website. On the left side of your SendGrid dashboard, open Settings and click on API Keys. Click the button in the top right to create a new key. Make sure that the key has Full Access for Send Mail and Alerts.  When you are done, the new key to your clipboard.

    Now, return to the SendGrid menu on your NodeBB admin panel. Paste the API key into the field, and save your changes. Now go back to the Dashboard to restart your forum one more time.

    SendGrid should now be working for your forum.

    Quick start plugin has an example on how to add a new api route https://github.com/NodeBB/nodebb-plugin-quickstart/blob/master/library.js#L40-L76.

    The hooks that are fired client side are for client side code in plugins. If you want to pass data from the client to the server you have two options.

    Create an api route like in quick start plugin Create a new socket event listener on the server side and use socket.emit() client side. Example here

    Well the ones I linked have no npm install step unless you're on a very old NodeBB version.

    @julian said in Upgrade from 1.8.1 to 1.8.2 failed:

    Yes... that's correct. If you want, you can set package_manager to yarn, so the nodebb upgrade process uses yarn as well.

    Then you should be good to go.

    ok, I'll try this on production tomorrow.

    Thanks for you help so far!

    Honestly I can't imagine why this would be the case. In our experience NodeBB has been fairly stable in terms of memory usage (it will creep up over time, although this is mainly due to post cache and such)...

    What does your ACP dashboard show, are you seeing many visits from spiders? Do you have lots of topics but low user counts?

    Great, I created a widget with the text which is only visible to anonymous users.

    Thanks a lot! 🙂

    After last restart forum has been up almost 2 days without crash, no plugin has been disabled. Actually I didn't do anything else, just started NodeBB again.

    @pitaj said in Many NodeBB forums have a message... connection... lost...:

    The "connection lost" message is usually caused because the URL at which you are visiting a NodeBB forum is not the "url" value set in config.json

    I can be on mangolassi.it for hours. Then I leave that tab and work in another tab for a while, and then when I click back on the tab for mangolassi.it I will be spammed with connection lost.

    You need the uploaded files as well which are at public/uploads in the nodebb folder.

    It was rather trivial to add the error message, here is how:

    in uglify-js module, added a error reporting log to the file lib\parse.js in following method:

    function js_error(message, filename, line, col, pos) { console.log(message, filename, line, col, pos); throw new JS_Parse_Error(message, filename, line, col, pos); };

    Looks like the error handling of fault barrier doesn't do what it supposed to.

    @PitaJ Thank again for your help.

    Probably i'm really solved ;d
    Just replace url in package.json

    "nodebb-theme-quickstart": "url",

    to

    "nodebb-theme-quickstart": "1.0.0", // your version

    and add --save
    to npm install https://github.com/nodebb/nodebb-theme-quickstart --save

    Hi,

    How do I make the e-mails display the name I set under e-mail settings, it shows the e-mail address instead of the name right now.

    I am using the Sparkhost plugin.
