Is NodeBB free?
-
Hi there, I'm from Italy so excuse me if you see any error in my grammar or spelling. I just wanted to know if NodeBB is a free software or not. I really can't understand.
I see that on the website you say "Free for Devs". What does this means exactly? Thank you in advance for any reply! -
NodeBB is free to use if you can provide your own server. A VPS, Digital Ocean Droplet or Dedicated server will be required to host this, a normal web hosting package won't work with NodeBB. Sounds good? Yes! Perfect, you can find the installation instructions here.

Thank you so much Kowlin! I'll check it out!
-
Excuse me for the double post. Is there a repository of all themes and plugins or they are just random posted on the subforums here on NodeBB.org?
-
Most plugins can be found using the Admin Control Panel, under plugins. This is the recommended way to get any theme's and plugins your interested in. Another list is the NPM directory. (This includes outdated plugins) All plugins begin with
nodebb-plugin
and themes will usenodebb-theme
-
Mhh, for the most of them there are no preview images. Am I wrong?
-
I think there are images for a lot of the plugins in the plugin forum. Most plugins in the repository have a matching thread. I'd do a search on this forum to find the thread for whichever plugin you are looking for images of.
-
Indeed most popular plugins have there own theads on this forum.
-
You can also usually find screenshots by throwing the name of the plugin into github.com search. If the dev has uploaded one. Some plugins don't really require a screen shot. Just an explanation of what it does and how to use it.
-
Would be great a simple thread with a list of all the plugins and aviable themes, no? What do you think?
-
The list of compatible plugins is found in NodeBB itself. There are others, but many are incompatible or out-of-date because their authors have not updated them.
Some may be compatible, but it is best to stick with the ones on the plugin list

Thank you for your replies guys. So I'm trying to install it on localhost, just to test it out. I never used both node or homebrew and obvisouly this software, so let's see what I get!
-
Have you considered to use a "knock knock" sound for notifications?
-
@Dakoom you can replace them.
I use an airplane one. -
That's great! Thank you for the info! Now I'm stuck into the install process (check my other thread in Tech Support).
-
Ok, solved! Now I have it installed. So there are only three-four themes aviable for it, right? Or am I missing something?
-
Could you share your sounds guys for notifications?

@Nicolas would love to. But file uploads are disabled here and I do not remember the link where I found the file anymore.
All what I can say is, that I've got it from a website for open source sounds.
Probably this one: https://freesound.org/.
