@StuartH it may have to do with how often NodeBB calls the filter:footer.build hook, and since it's a SINGLE PAGE APP, it's not much, I've seen that weirdness, but I am not too sure what to do about it, the filter is pretty straight forward. what you can do to verify that's the footer code is being generated correctly, is to view-source of the page, then search for nodebb-plugin-42 comment.
if for some reason, the javascript generated is invalid, you may have a page error. I am working on a fix for this issue
More minimalist header bar

I like it this way, although maybe add some tooltip titles on hover telling people what the icon is. It doesn't work on mobile, but hey, it helps. Just a suggestion.
-
The icons on the left have "title" so the browser should show a default tooltip. The ones on the right (search, notifications, chat, profile) don't have titles. Need to add them into the language files and to the templates.
-
Ok now I see it.

I prefer the old style, it dose what it says on the tin, wheres the minimalist header bar is nice but not intuitive.
The envelop means email to me!! -
Hm... yeah, the envelope also means "email" to me, but for these icons, we're constrained to this list. Perhaps you can take a look and let us know what would work for you?
-
I like it but the icon is so-so at best.
New reply window is interesting as well. It's much much bigger.. I'd like to see a way to be able to have both in options maybe so people can have whichever they prefer.
Part of the allure to me is how minimal it has been so far...

the fa-comments or the fa-plus-circle

the fa-comments or the fa-plus-circle
fa-comments & fa-comments-0 could be a good lit/unlit combo
empty one for nothing. filled with the # for unread #'s

@OutlawedOffroad Neat... would be interesting to see if it's actually possible to put the #s inside the icon.

Sounds good to me

yeah the idea is good but it's ez for me to say this or that
harder part is making it reality.. on desktop it would probably be legible but on mobile it might just get too small to read more than a single digit.. on the side probably still wins in that scenario

How to get it?
