Custom Favicon Not Showing

Another thing I noticed is that when I first load the forum, the red dot (that indicates I have unread notifications) on the bell does not show up. However, when I go to any topic, the red dot shows up on the bell icon and on our custom favicon (see screenshot in previous post).

As soon as I go to forum index and hit refresh, the red dot on bell icon disappears along with our custom favicon.

@teemberland Go to ACP > Advanced > Cache

@dunlix should I clear all of them ? (Post, Object, Group, Local)

@teemberland sure. Clearing them all won't harm anything, so clear them, click save, rebuild & restart. If the icon still isn't fixed im out of ideas.

I did, multiple times. The issue still persists.

@teemberland huh. I have had this issue before, when I applied it, it still wouldn't show. After a few days, it started working after no changes. Sounds like something cache-related, but I never cleared it. I guess just wait.

Yes, the same issue in incognito mode/private mode. And yes, the issue occurs in Chrome, Firefox and Safari.

It's strange, that the favicon would appear randomly as I navigate around the forum. Say from forum index > Go to a category > Go to random topic then favicon would show. But as soon as I hit refresh, favicon reverts to default favicon and the notification counts disappears.

Can you post a link to your forum? Also check if the correct favicon is in the following paths
/path/to/nodebb/public/favicon.ico
/path/to/nodebb/public/uploads/system/favicon.ico

I'm seeing the default nodebb favicon in /nodebb/public and I'm seeing our custom favicon in /nodebb/public/uploads/system

Can you try restarting your nginx? If that doesn't work try replacing the default nodebb favicon with your custom one in nodebb/public/ and restart nginx & nodebb.

See if that works.

@baris when I had this problem I most likely had rebooted the host computer at least once... that probably fixed it.

Also, when replacing the favicon in nodebb/public/ does the size have to be 16x16?

When I look in Chromium, I see the incorrect NodeBB favicon

@baris I replaced the default favicon with our custom one and it appears that fixed the issue. I will continue to monitor it.

NOTE:

Haven't restarted & rebuilt the forums. I only replaced the favicon image in nodebb/public

EDIT:

I still see the default favicon on random refreshes of the page. The notification counts also is a hit or miss still. Also, when sharing post to external sites/apps, I'm still seeing the default nodebb favicon.

Did you restart nginx and nodebb after replacing the favicon? The icon is cached by nodebb so a restart is necessary.

@baris not yet. I will try it tonight and schedule a maintenance. We have a lot of active users at the moment.
