@Jenkler that should be a massive plugin or acore feature.
I was thinking on starting a similar plugin when i have some time. Something based on marking some threads as blog entries or news, and display them in homepage into a widget to simulate some sort of blog-like functionality.
The comment system and visualization would be the same as a forum, in fact it would only be a post but flagged as displayable in the widget, so all mantains the same, except the flag.
Is that similar to what you want?

@Jenkler yes both approaches could be managed in the plugin. So you could select certain category, or display posts flagged of mixed categories.
I will try to work on it when i have some time.

+1 for this idea...it would be great to have a blog feature within nodebb

A chosen category as a blog with separate styling to differentiate it from a normal topic (perhaps with its own "header" image field) , and placing the author avatar and name elsewhere with the option to reverse "replies" in it so the newest comments comes first (or not).
That said, using Ghost with the comments plugin would give you all of that now, and it runs on NodeJS. But it would be a useful solution for many.

@Jenkler My plugin nodebb-featured-topics-extended is an option.
I see it on a ton of sites, despite it not being finished or advertised anywhere.
I'm not doing any work on it right now, but if you need any features added you can send a github issue and I'll get to it asap.
