IMO this is the exact look I don't want my NodeBB to be. You have this beautiful architecture ready to roll a modern approach, and people are going to want it to look like vb 3.8 from 7 years ago.

haha if you like it, write a plugin

p.s. gamification / engagement is a big priority for us... whether its in the core or within a plugin remains to be seen. But stuff like this is always on the top of my (our) minds.
