@sampo2910 of None is the only option that works, then that's probably the only one your email provider supports. It should be fine as long as you don't need your emails to be perfectly secure.
can't send emails
-
Hi everyone,
I cant send any emails with the local emailer. I keep getting this error:
filter:email.send, 139769591261248:error:140770FC:SSL routines:SSL23_GET_SERVER_HELLO:unknown protocol:s23_clnt.c:769:
Any suggestions? I tried https://community.nodebb.org/topic/4323/emailer-via-local-smtp-and-ssl-tls but still no go.
Thanks and kind regards,

@Adam-Poniatowski I would recommend using an emailer plugin instead of local emailer. Try one of these. All of them provide free tiers.
nodebb-plugin-emailer-mailjet nodebb-plugin-emailer-sendgrid nodebb-plugin-emailer-mailgun

I think I found the problem. My IP has been blocked by their spam filters (microsoft). I had it delisted now and I will see where it goes.
I hope its that...

You will have this problem with all email providers if you use local emailer. They just assume it's spam.

nope... still the same issue

I tried the other emailer (nodebb-plugin-emailer-ssl-smtp) and that works... weird, as I had the local emailer working before, when I had it on my freebsd machine (now centos).
Thanks for trying, it is much appreciated
