    • RE: Okay this is ridiculous

LOL... this thread is funny. A computer illiterate person complaining about not having support on a free product. Try buying a 2nd-hand cisco switch and calling cisco to help set that up for you... good f*cking luck XD

How about I help you? for a fee of course... my field is IT, but I don't do it for free. Hence it is called a job, where people pay for my knowledge and expertise. I am not a developer though, so that is why I reserve those types of questions for them. However, I am learning to become a full stack developer... just for kicks.

OOOORRRRR.... learn how to use the OS first, before going on a pointless hissy-fit and hoping to get support from people. If it is about setting up nodebb as a service on linux... the instructions work. Unfortunately one will have to do the hard work (aka reading and following the instructions). A couple of modifications here and there (if you know what you are doing) and presto, it works beautifully. Haven't had it crash once... except for nginx... but I fixed that.

      *edit to add: https://community.nodebb.org/topic/10830/how-to-keep-nodebb-start-when-i-reboot-ubuntu16-04

took me 2 seconds to search it on this forum...

    • RE: Clustered nodeBB on Apache

@hariom-vashisth The Apache (or nginx) will act as the proxy/load balancer in this topology. It is a very simple HA/clustering setup, but one can take it further with more load balancers and use round robin DNS, if you want failover/HA for your load balancers. or one can skip apache/nginx and go ahead with just DNS load balancing.

    • RE: Recaptcha antispam before SSO

seems like I need to clarify my question...

The reason for the recaptcha/antispam question before SSO, is to avoid spammers using scripts to use SSO with a burner account (which I am seeing here on this forum). That is one way to avoid spam filters and creating more spam, which can annoy some forum users/admins.

      So in other words...
click on Register -> click on SSO link -> Antispam question/recaptcha -> then click SSO login/agree button

    • Storage requirements

      Hi there,

I am planning on using NodeBB and was wondering how much space would around 10 million posts and 1 million users work out at? As using a VPS can cost a bit (storage-wise) and self-hosted can be relatively cheap, depending how much space the above mentioned will take.

If anybody can help me out with answering that, that would be great. I am in between NodeBB and Flarum, hence the question. I haven't gotten an answer at Flarum about this, though.

Scalability is what I want to know. Resources and performance I can figure out myself, but storage is hard to determine.

      Thanks and kind regards,

    • RE: best OS for NodeBB

I see a OS flamewar coming with this topic XD

Mine would be CentOS. Very stable OS and quite secure.

    • RE: Using NodeBB for Project Management

Interesting... @pichalite to me it seems like you would like to discourage the OP from continuing with this project. Tell me, if it was such a waste of time and you fire off your one-liners (sometimes 2) like this is a bullshit project... why did you bother to reply?

Surely if this project is a waste of time, then you just wasted your time in replying, which in turn makes you a hypocrite, right?

@tradingdojo Please continue this project, I would like to see how the alpha version of this might look, then I will be able to help with ideas 🙂

    • RE: Why I chose to use nodeBB over phpBB, Discourse, MyBB and other forums.

one question... what specs is your server to be able to handle 22k pageviews/290 users?

      Just curious 🙂

    • RE: how to keep nodebb start when I reboot ubuntu16.04

@Giggiux beat me to it 🙂

      you might need:

After= mongod.service/redis.service (depends which one you use)

This will at least wait for your DB to startup before starting. It helps after restarts

@fish I'd also like to know... maybe I can correct it, or elaborate a bit more about it. 🙂

as the documentation is pretty good, so far.

    • RE: Slow page loading on DigitalOcean

      the ultimate questions are...

what instance are you running? 1 vcore 1GB VM? bigger? smaller?

Do you have swap? in case you don't have enough memory...

is the DB on the same server as nginx and nodebb? separate?

      Which OS are you running?

If these questions were answered, please point me to it, and I will see if I can help

    • RE: nodebb-plugin-youtube-lite

interesting... usually I just restart the service (systemctl restart nodebb, if you haven't created it as a service, one can run ./nodebb stop && ./nodebb start, or you can just go with ./nodebb restart, I prefer stopping and starting it... old windows habits)... then I run ./nodebb build and after that refresh my browser (ctrl + F5).

      See if that works
