Trouble Installing 'Awesome-Plugin' on NodeBB v1.12.3 – Encountering 'ModuleNotFoundError'!
-
Hi everyone,
I'm currently exploring NodeBB and trying to set up the 'Awesome-Plugin' on my forum. However, I've encountered a stumbling block that I can't seem to get past. I keep getting the following error: ModuleNotFoundError: Cannot find module 'Awesome-Plugin'.
I'm using NodeBB version 1.12.3 on a Ubuntu server, and I've followed the installation instructions to the letter. Despite trying to uninstall and reinstall the plugin, clearing the cache, and even attempting the installation on a fresh instance of NodeBB, the error persists.
Has anyone else faced this 'ModuleNotFoundError' with the 'Awesome-Plugin'? If so, could you please share how you managed to resolve it, or provide any suggestions on what might be going wrong?
I appreciate any insights or guidance you can provide. Thank you in advance!

NodeBB version 1.12.3
Any reason as to why you are using such an old version? The current supported version is
3.2.3

Yep very old version here. Maybe upgrade first, just for security.

If you need to use v1.x, the latest release is v1.19.12
You can find upgrade instructions here: https://docs.nodebb.org/configuring/upgrade/
Follow the "via release branches" part and use the v1.x branch. However, if you can upgrade to v3 or at least v2 that would probably be preferable, since they'll be supported for longer (v2 will get security fixes until August 2025. source) in addition to offering quite a few new features.
