Rotating Banner Ad? Can I create one?

Hi, forgive me for being a total javascript noob... I am creating a board for a client, and he wants a rotating banner ad at the footer of each section of the forum.

I do not know how to do this ... I have seen some JS+HTML examples online, and I've tried a couple of them, but I cannot get it to work inside of nodebb.

Can someone please help me out?

The idea is to have a banner advertisement image and associated link load randomly every time a forum page is loaded.
