Since I shared a few days ago that I have not been active here as I dealt with the imminent death of my brother, I thought I'd share now – at the risk of too much sharing – that my brother died this morning.

Thank you for sharing your moving reflection on your brother Philip's life and what he meant to you. As you say, "Life is a precious gift, and we must live it while it is given to us." @the_roamer Thank you so much, and for your beautiful summation of what life is about. I'm thinking this morning of a statement made by Jacqui Lewis, a pastor in New York City. She says,

“Love. Period. Everything else is commentary.”

That strikes me as so true, so simple. And I love how it's deeply rooted in Jewish tradition, too, with Hillel's statement,

"'What is hateful to you, do not to your neighbou'r: that is the whole Torah, while the rest is the commentary thereof."
