Since I shared a few days ago that I have not been active here as I dealt with the imminent death of my brother, I thought I'd share now – at the risk of too much sharing – that my brother died this morning.

My condolences William. That was a beautiful & touching obituary. I hope that writing it gave you some comfort.

Thank you for sharing these remembrances and thoughts. Very sorry for your loss. Condolences to you and all those around you who share in your brother's loss and are in mourning. May the good memories and love comfort you. -
@wdlindsy You'd think that, as it happens more often now, we would somehow get used to it. Or at least have accumulated better tools to do the internal work of mourning.

As always your words are magnificently full and appropriate. Brimming with love for your brother and those dear to him in his life.
I am absolutely convinced that these profound forms of love never die.
"Life is a precious gift and we must live it while it is given to us". So your gift to Philip is to do just that. To the full; as a way of honouring him -

@the_roamer Thank you so much, and for your beautiful summation of what life is about. I'm thinking this morning of a statement made by Jacqui Lewis, a pastor in New York City. She says,
“Love. Period. Everything else is commentary.”
That strikes me as so true, so simple. And I love how it's deeply rooted in Jewish tradition, too, with Hillel's statement,
"'What is hateful to you, do not to your neighbou'r: that is the whole Torah, while the rest is the commentary thereof."

@Susan60 Thank you so much. Yes, for me, writing is often therapeutic. It allows me to take what is inside me and put it outside, on paper (as it were — on the computer screen). Doing that helps externalize feelings and put them into perspective, I find, and helps organize ideas.

@Bodling You're right: death is what's impossible ever to get used to, isn't it? It's an obscenity, when all is said and done, one we naturally rebel against accepting.

@Danetteb Thank you so much. Yes, a big loss, to lose a sibling who shares one's history in a way no one else can ever share it.
