Unread topics for guests - visibility customizable?

Hi,

in our forum every topic is hidden from the public and an account is required. However, in order to be nice to casual visitors, there's one board with one topic which contains a welcome message, some instructions and help for such visitors.

The problem is, I posted this topic during forum setup and it is not visible anymore for guests. My current workaround is to delete it and create a new one with the same content. But this is a little annoying.

Is there any way to tune the time how long a topic is marked as unread for guests? Or another way to achieve this?

@tlinden you could create a widget such as featured topics which shows the topic instead. You could create a washer instead of a topic for the welcome message. You could show the recent page instead of the unread page.

You can also change the unread cutoff days from 2 at https://community.nodebb.org/admin/settings/post#unread-settings, raising it too much would slow down the /unread page though.

Sounds good, but how would I have different widgets for guest and registered users?

You could show the recent page instead of the unread page.

Recent is the current setting. And the topic is "too old" to be recent, it seems.
