I think you need change theme templates, this file: node_modules/nodebb-theme-persona/templates/header.tpl But you need realize, in this case updates to new versions may be more painfull.

Such a thing happens in cases when using the proxy. Try to reset and configure the server again.

Imgur will allow you to upload gifs (I should hope so!)... I don't think there's a way to pull a png back from imgur (that's actually a png)

Yes, you'll want to use the Wordpress SSO. There's no support for session sharing at the moment (so, the "auto login" part).

Kinda depends on which php forum. MongoDB uses more ram than mysql. I can definitely run MyBB lighter than Nodebb on my hosting. I believe that IPB and VBulletin don't run well on shared hosting, so I'd put them about matched with NodeBB in usage. Of course, its been so long since i tried running either of those i could be full of crap.
