@drlukeangel what web install? I mean itcould automatically setup Redis, all configs, instead of “following the guide” why not make a Setup Wizard that helps us to do a fast nodebb install based on the info we provide

@markus9876 A little bit of both It is outdated in that as of v1.6.0, you no longer need to use emailer-local to send emails via sendmail or postfix or whatever. NodeBB has supported emails for discussion replies and mentions for many versions now

Yes, this is possible through limiting privilege of the various categories, as well as potentially a custom bit of javascript to redirect users to the login page.

To expand on @pitaj's reply -- Correct, there is no difference in the code between the hosted version and the open source version. However, the hosted version does come with support ticket access and scheduled upgrades are free as part of the monthly fee. We also handle set-up/install, as well as scheduled backups of the data both locally and externally.

That partial is on all pages that display a list of topics ie /recent /unread /popular and /category pages. You need to create a plugin and add hooks for those pages the hook format is filter:<template_name>.build in those hooks you need to go through the topics array and subtract one from each topic's postcount.

Is there any progress on this, as I am also interested in using Drupal with NodeBB.

@kenygamer I'm far from a developer. The folks at [email protected] are probably the best bet for a customer plugin. It sounds like you don't want to use single sign on (which relies on cookies or session tokens), you want to use a full on external database for authentication. I think from a user experience, cost, and level of effort; you'd be better just having the users register on the forums.

We at NodeBB want to encourage others to take advantage of the fact that it's open source. We offer premium services for brand name corporate clients, and I'll be the first to admit that our pricing may not be at the right point for smaller companies... All that said, we know you've created multiple accounts to disguise the fact that you were as recently as a few days ago asking for help setting up NodeBB. If you had just used the same account, it would be acceptable: there's no rules against that! I'm sorry but it just sounds dishonest and it's within our rights to point it out to would-be purchasers of your service.

Yes, Nginx and HHVM are running (this last one in socket mode) and I explicitly commented the line in the config for the server port. Error log files for Nginx and HHVM are empty. It returns a 502 bad gateway when I visit a file ending in .php or .hh, EVEN if it doesn't exist. I have followed the SAME tutorial here: https://community.nodebb.org/topic/11032/nodebb-full-stack-setup (Linux Ubuntu 16.04.3 LTS) and service hhvm status and service nginx status are up, loaded, running. HHVM works in CLI as php command and even returns the version HipHop if I add the -v parameter. PHP-FPM is NOT installed.

I suppose one could forego the config.json file completely and use environment variables to configure their NodeBB. The properties are the same. url=http://localhost:4567 database=redis node app.js etc...

@kenygamer said in redis does not require a password, but password was supplied: @teh_g No. I'd ignore it then. I think it might be tied to this issue that was fixed in a more recent node-redis version: https://github.com/dwyl/redis-connection/issues/31
