I'm a queer woman who was raised in a hard right community like most people here couldn't imagine and was threatened with physical violence about how I voted -- the people around me literally bought out the ammunition from gun stores around elections, I want you to take a moment to truly imagine being a teenager in the closet and seeing guns in the hands of people who regularly threaten you -- and I'm reading that ad about Republican women voting very differently than 99% of the posts on here

Just because the world wants what you can do, doesn't mean it always wants who you are; I see a large theme across all the research I ever do that speaks to this argument. If you want what we can do you better get out of the way of who we are.

@Rycaut @silasmariner I agree completely, and this distinction also matches much of what we know about the features of occupational trauma for folks who work in wildfires, hospitals, etc. I think it's very important to recognize it's not at all just about business systems and the resources of a business but that technical work can involve taking on immense responsibility and pressure during a human crisis (often unexpected/unsupported/unseen)

Spider-Verse is also different psychology I think in that it takes seriously the ways that adolescence might not only be about "successfully becoming like the adults." It can be about a new future altogether. Gifted adolescence transcending & reconstructing previous rules & constraints. That's a very NOW and present version of adolescent heroism, a really challenging psychological dilemma of needing to let go of belonging (even dearly held parts of it) in order to do something greater.

Someone in misinformation research really needs to follow-up with all the biologists and other researchers (so many grad student open science folks!!) who worked to keep floods of misinformation about covid off preprint servers as best they could. It's an invisible heroic battle that hasn't been talked about enough and I've only heard about it from personal conversations. Way more interested in this than Wikipedia editing or whatever.
