The people there seem pretty chill in my experience so far.

Dansup is walking, most of everyone else is talking.
Isn't that because Dan hasn't open-sourced his project yet and doesn't let anybody else contribute?
-
FYI "darling" can also be used with a spouse or romantic partner. It has a similar meaning in this case, where "darling of the group" means everyone really likes them, even if not sexual.

I moved from Instagram to Pixelfed around a year ago and went from barely anyone seeing my photography to literally no one seeing it.

They don't have proper "trending" page, that's why it seems barren.
At least on Pixelfed.social, there are a lot of active photographers, both casuals and professional posting their work there.

I get likes on cat pictures and that's it. The likes always seem to come after I go to bed so I assume somewhere else in the world is where the exposure is coming from

I didn't remember which one it was. I'm not really a GitHub user. It said there were open issues for a long time.
