Why is it so inactive? I made an account and there are barely any posts or activity.

I moved from Instagram to Pixelfed around a year ago and went from barely anyone seeing my photography to literally no one seeing it.

They don't have proper "trending" page, that's why it seems barren.
At least on Pixelfed.social, there are a lot of active photographers, both casuals and professional posting their work there.

I get likes on cat pictures and that's it. The likes always seem to come after I go to bed so I assume somewhere else in the world is where the exposure is coming from

I didn't remember which one it was. I'm not really a GitHub user. It said there were open issues for a long time.

Of course it is, but then again: it's because everyone else is talking. No one stops everyone else from starting their own project and overtaking his by sheer power of community. Until that happens, one man would have to suffice.
