Erin Reed reminds us of the practice, life-or-death challenges now facing some of us due to the choice made by the rest of us. She's offering advice to trans people and people who care about them:

Checking in... Let's talk. Hey y'all. We are one day out, and you've already made it 24 hours. That's good. I am so blessed to have been able to spend what was otherwise a horrific night with the company of all of you. So many of you have reached out to me with stories of your own lives, your own queer and trans experiences, worries, hopes, and fears. I wanted to share some very practical next steps for my trans readers. Here are the things I recommend: - Get your passport. Today. It takes time to come in and getting an updated gender marker will likely be shut down under Trump. - Update every ID your state allows you to. - Make sure you have a supply of medication in case of disruption - If you have a trans kid that is stealth, consider maintaining stealth to get around enforcement of anti-trans laws. - Watch my risk map and newsletter, I'll be tracking the next wave of anti-trans legislation we are sure to see. - Stay in touch and ACTIVE with your local (LOCAL) LGBTQ+ org and mutual aid groups. This can help with supply disruptions. - If you are considering moving to a new state, this is a good time to do so. Not everyone wants to or can move, so respect that. - Change your social security office gender marker. Most people don't realize this is a thing that exists. Do it sooner rather than later. Other than that, check in with each other. And consider this my check in with you, my readers. I'll leave the chat open for the next 24 hours... and maybe will make these chats a regular thing, at least for now.

It's going to get very bad for some of us, quickly. Because others have chosen this for us.

"America was given the opportunity to let a Black and Asian American woman move us beyond a decade of Trump’s racist, sexist, and toxic form of grievance politics with a broad agenda grounded in joy, compassion, and opportunity. And America, specifically the majority of white Americans, said: 'No thanks. We’re good.'”

My job may be to sort out what the election means for the Supreme Court, reproductive health care, and the guardrails of our democracy. And I’ll get to that. But first, I have to get past the sting of, once again, feeling like the nation that I love and believe in just backhanded me.

/17“The Confederacy Won”: Why Donald Trump’s Reelection Is a Win for White Supremacy, Xenophobia & Hate
Donald Trump has been reelected president of the United States. Ahead of Kamala Harris’s expected concession speech, we speak to professors Carol Anderson and Michele Goodwin to discuss Harris’s historic campaign — and historic loss. “The Confederacy won,” says Anderson, a professor of African American studies at Emory University. “It paints a picture of what Americans are willing to embrace,” says Goodwin, a professor of constitutional law at Georgetown and an expert on healthcare law, who warns of the public health dangers of a second Trump administration and discusses the election’s implications for reproductive rights.

Placing the blame on white people is misdirected if less people showed up. Harris made gains in the white women vote. It appears less people voted than in 2020. THAT is the problem.
