"Trump’s predictable return to the presidency—in what is the final American presidential election of our lifetimes (a conservative plan decades in the making, with help from liberal complicity masquerading as incompetence)—was nothing more and nothing less than the majority of white voters confirming that they want to live in a country that adheres to the standards of living as expressed in 1824 rather than 2024."

"no longer America the beautiful"
it's depends on who is setting the beauty standards
by conventional measures, America has been a global tyrant for a long time, since the 1850s, and domestically it has believed in race and justified its racism for longer.

Erin Reed reminds us of the practice, life-or-death challenges now facing some of us due to the choice made by the rest of us. She's offering advice to trans people and people who care about them:
"I wanted to share some very practical next steps for my trans readers. Here are the things I recommend:"

"Get your passport. Today. It takes time to come in and getting an updated gender marker will likely be shut down under Trump. - Update every ID your state allows you to. - Make sure you have a supply of medication in case of disruption - If you have a trans kid that is stealth, consider maintaining stealth to get around enforcement of anti-trans laws."
It's going to get very bad for some of us, quickly. Because others have chosen this for us.

"With the election of Donald Trump, our fellow citizens are about to get exactly what they want. There is nothing that God, man, or the Constitution can do about it, because we did it to ourselves. …
The American people, which is all of us, got together on Tuesday and chose everything that’s coming for close to the next decade."

"America was given the opportunity to let a Black and Asian American woman move us beyond a decade of Trump’s racist, sexist, and toxic form of grievance politics with a broad agenda grounded in joy, compassion, and opportunity. And America, specifically the majority of white Americans, said: 'No thanks. We’re good.'”

My job may be to sort out what the election means for the Supreme Court, reproductive health care, and the guardrails of our democracy. And I’ll get to that. But first, I have to get past the sting of, once again, feeling like the nation that I love and believe in just backhanded me.

This year, I have decided to cancel Thanksgiving dinner at my house. I see little to be thankful for this year after seeing that the majority of Americans willfully chose fascism—including a lot of my family members. Every year, I have been the cook. I...

/17“The Confederacy Won”: Why Donald Trump’s Reelection Is a Win for White Supremacy, Xenophobia & Hate
Donald Trump has been reelected president of the United States. Ahead of Kamala Harris’s expected concession speech, we speak to professors Carol Anderson and Michele Goodwin to discuss Harris’s historic campaign — and historic loss. “The Confederacy won,” says Anderson, a professor of African American studies at Emory University. “It paints a picture of what Americans are willing to embrace,” says Goodwin, a professor of constitutional law at Georgetown and an expert on healthcare law, who warns of the public health dangers of a second Trump administration and discusses the election’s implications for reproductive rights.

Placing the blame on white people is misdirected if less people showed up. Harris made gains in the white women vote. It appears less people voted than in 2020. THAT is the problem.
