@radiophobicsherkpop Yeah, I've had Threads blocked for a while now. The company has absolutely not earned any sort of benefit of doubt, and the stance to "wait and see" completely ignores the documented history of their actions.
Still, the beauty of the fediverse is that we can organize in communities based on what's important to us, and what trade-offs we're all willing to make.

Was this post deleted? I didn't delete my comment but it's showing as deleted.

@edg Ah, just noticing that you're on Lemmy.
Seems like there might be some kind of a bug, this happened to replies to a post I made on Mastodon that somehow ended up on lemmy.world.

@[email protected] Hmm, yeah, my post somehow ended up on lemmy.world (I'm on a Mastodon server), but no idea why all the replies show up as deleted. A bug maybe?

Might be worth reporting to your server admin, if you have the time/interest.

And to admins who are still on the fence, perhaps thinking that their community is too small and defederating would not meaningfully impact Meta's decision, here's a quote attributed to Jean-Paul Sartre:
"You don’t fight fascism because you are going to win, you fight fascism because it is fascism."

@stefan @stux @[email protected] For now, I'm keeping the "limit" I've always had on Threads in place on this instance. While I deeply dislike Meta, Zuckerberg, et. al., I don't dislike the people who use Meta. I don't feel slamming a door in their face because they use Threads is appropriate. I think discussion and discourse is the best way to change people's behavior.

@stefan @radiophobicsherkpop I pre-emptively blocked Threads, then let my users vote in a poll last spring. They went for the fedipact

Hmm, and now hachyderm.io. With a very detailed explanation.
"There’s no perfect “calculation” here, but essentially the long-term risk/reward ratio went from overall medium-high to very low because of how significantly these policy changes increase risk of harm."

@stefan I'm on Hachyderm. I strongly (!!) disagree with the decision, but have no choice in the matter — and I really can't be bothered to change instances, especially now that Hachyderm has finally given us a decent character limit .
I would've preferred if this was left up to individual people. To block Threads themselves, or to block accounts posting hateful content.
I'm very active on Threads and I see 99%+ (most days 100%) 'normal' content. Shitposts, jokes, life updates, work stuff, sport banter, world events, etc. I've blocked several accounts there myself (pornbots and people posting nasty replies to others) and that's how I think it should work. We're throwing the baby out with the bathwater. The people at the top of Threads/Meta made a horrible (and it is fucking horrible) decision, but that does not remove all the good content regular (non horrible) people are posting there. Regular people are being punished by this defederation decision, not the people who made the bad choice at Meta.
Anyway, it is what it is. </end rant>

@leoncowle I hear you. Honestly, I think it's a bigger issue that you can't properly migrate to another server, with your full post history. Then moderators' decisions wouldn't matter as much.
