"The new Meta policy goes against much we stand for and we will not allow to let it spill over to the Fediverse"

Attached: 1 image After close consideration we have come to the decision to block Threads.net instance wide on all related instances (mstdn.social, masto.ai, mastodon.coffee, pixey.org, gram.social) The new Meta policy goes against much we stand for and we will not allow to let it spill over to the Fediverse I just checked the numbers and it seems Threads is the biggest 'loser' here On all instances combined we lose just under 100 followers spread across all instances Threads will lose over 13K total

Hi all. Given the recent announcement from Meta about AI personas and allowed behavior, I am moving threads.net back to a limit, and will likely move them to a block in the future on infosec.exchange. I can’t ignore the reality that the changes they’re making are specifically intended to permit attacks on many of the people that call this place home. I won’t rule out that they walk the changes back, which is why I’m not jumping to sever the nearly 4000 mutual follow relationships between people on threads and here.

@radiophobicsherkpop Yeah, I've had Threads blocked for a while now. The company has absolutely not earned any sort of benefit of doubt, and the stance to "wait and see" completely ignores the documented history of their actions.
Still, the beauty of the fediverse is that we can organize in communities based on what's important to us, and what trade-offs we're all willing to make.

Was this post deleted? I didn't delete my comment but it's showing as deleted.

@edg Ah, just noticing that you're on Lemmy.
Seems like there might be some kind of a bug, this happened to replies to a post I made on Mastodon that somehow ended up on lemmy.world.

@[email protected] Hmm, yeah, my post somehow ended up on lemmy.world (I'm on a Mastodon server), but no idea why all the replies show up as deleted. A bug maybe?

Might be worth reporting to your server admin, if you have the time/interest.

And to admins who are still on the fence, perhaps thinking that their community is too small and defederating would not meaningfully impact Meta's decision, here's a quote attributed to Jean-Paul Sartre:
"You don’t fight fascism because you are going to win, you fight fascism because it is fascism."

@stefan @stux @[email protected] For now, I'm keeping the "limit" I've always had on Threads in place on this instance. While I deeply dislike Meta, Zuckerberg, et. al., I don't dislike the people who use Meta. I don't feel slamming a door in their face because they use Threads is appropriate. I think discussion and discourse is the best way to change people's behavior.

@stefan @radiophobicsherkpop I pre-emptively blocked Threads, then let my users vote in a poll last spring. They went for the fedipact
