Categories.tpl, category.tpl, topics.tpl and MOTD in Persona?

In the Vanilla theme you can add widgets to the categories.tpl, category.tpl and topics tpl templates right there in the admin panel.
The specific widget I want to use is MOTD. It's very flexible and allows you to place anything from simple text to HTML.
Does anyone know how to get that capability when I select Persona as the active theme?

OK guys, this is literally the only thing holding us back from shut down our dev install and migrating for real this week. Is there any way I can do it myself?
I see it's in the works to be added back but who knows how long this will take?

They were removed from Persona because the widget system was to be rewritten, but this seems to have inadvertently stalled, so reintroducing them should be a good stopgap.

Fixes NodeBB/NodeBB#4646 There was some inconsistency with where breadcrumbs were located. I couldn't find any reason for this, so I made them all the same.

I can't find a single document that describes how to upgrade a theme...
Do I need to just uninstall/reinstall? Will that get me the latest theme?
themes are like plugins so on each nodebb version you can update till supported version of that theme on your admin panel
if you want to try newer version of a theme and dont want to wait till next nodebb release, you can test it by 2 ways
installing master nodebb
or cloning theme from his repo to get last modifications
