Windows install. I want to smash my PC!
-
I consider myself a very patient guy but this NodeBB installation has toped my limit.
I want to install NodeBB so ....
-
Why do I need Python? 2.7.8 ? why not 2.7.11 or 3.X?
-
Why do I need imagemagick.org?
-
Why do I need Microsoft Visual Studio Express 2013 for Windows Desktop?
Why do I need them since nowhere in the install instructions are commands related to them? -
redis version 2.8.x or 3.0.x? Do I have to test out all version ?
BTW GitHub ( another pos install ) does not by default install NodeBB in
so why does it reference that location?
Thank you.

@Kuebeker i had same frustration with windows. i tested nodebb install on non windows pc (ubuntu) and so much easier to follow guides. it didn't even take me more than 15 minutes to get it up and running.

I believe you bud but I'm stuck with windows for now.
-
python and visual studio are for compiling some libs, any python 2.7 should work
both redis should work though I would recommend mongo on windows
not sure about that github comment since I use git CLII don't think you need imagemagick anymore?

can confirm, looked at windows install... NOPE.. rented digital ocean droplet, and followed a tutorial. had it up and running in 10 mins.
Here is a referral for Digital Ocean, very good cheap hosting, and i believe you get $10 free credit with my referral link - https://m.do.co/c/694c2ae2c08b
Also here is the tutorial i followed. - http://www.blogsynthesis.com/install-nodebb-on-digitalocean/
tag me if you have any issues and i can try help.

I would suggest not to follow that tutorial. For some reason the tutorial clones NodeBB under /var/www which is not required.
Also you will end up using the master branch of NodeBB which is a development version and is likely to have bugs.
