You are awesome 🙂
EDIT: indeed, and it works!
I just noticed there is a new section on this site called groups that can be accessed via menu bar by normal users. Are these independent of the groups created by admins behind the scene or are they essentially the same thing?
I literally found the same thing seconds ago! Was just looking into that too.
@arasbm Same thing I believe, but whoever creates the group has control of it. Which, could be exploited, I've not tested it extensively enough.
Yeah that feature is pretty new,
https://github.com/NodeBB/NodeBB/issues/2700 will help.
@baris is there any information available about what this feature actually is and how it will work? I am still wondering how it fits in with the admin controlled groups.
Backend wise they all use the same functionality. An admin created group and a user created group is essentially the same, although admins can give permissions to groups while a normal user who created a group cannot.
I just updated this forum to latest so group creation for normal users is disabled now. It is a site wide setting in the ACP>Settings>Group section now.
@baris how can we get this new group feature? i tried master branch, i saw ACP settings, after i enable public group, i still did not see it show up in header. which branch should we use to get this ? v0.6.x ? 0.7.0 ? master? thanks.
You need master latest and then vanilla/lavender themes latest version to get the template files that support that feature.
@baris is there any way by which I can only allow global mods to create the groups? but not normal users?
Not possible right now without a plugin, you can wait for https://github.com/NodeBB/NodeBB/issues/7217 to be implemented
