There are several plugins that add color, such as mega-colors, as well as one of my own rainbows
Both add a button with a colorpicker, so you don't need to know the color syntax.
improvements to post editor

Ok I really feel the current post editor can be improved in some way, some neat button layout or button re arrangement or so. I recently visited convoe.com , the site with custom nbb theme, designed by Trevor and it was good post editor that i saw there, I know it was a custom theme, but the post editor was the one which attracted me the most.
Right now nodebb looks and functions really good, and is taking the shape of a fully fledged community script, but post editor looks a little bit under developed, am not talking about more buttons and gallery upload or anything as these features can be implemented via plugins! I am mentioning about the core post editor. A little bit rearrangement of buttons or so? Keeping it simple and neater looking. I am taking my reference from Trevor's theme. What u guys think?
