The category is right there under the title
I think you are talking about breadcrumbs which we don't display right now on the topic page. See here for how to add breadcrumbs and why we didn't do it yet. Ideally we want to reduce duplication of information there. Maybe we could display the parent categories before the current category as badges.

My main concern would be information overload. The breadcrumbs are a nice touch, and I'm a little sad that they're less prominent in Harmony theme, so perhaps we could reintroduce them in a less obtrusive way...
The badge/pill styling is not subtle, though.

this is actually something our users ask too... and it would be nice and useful to have a clear "path" in the forum to that particular topic, especially if forum has many categories/sub-categories ...
so @baris , the only thing we need to achieve this is to change topic.tpl and add this as second line?

@crazycells Wouldn't it make sense to have this available in core (in the Harmony options) with a toggle switch so it can be enabled/disabled per user or per forum? My only concern with modifying templates is that unless you have the customise plugin installed and active, templates can easily be overwritten by an upgrade.
Admittedly, you could define your own, but they can get out of date very quickly.

but from my experience, it is usually hard to convince baris and julian to make any change in the core

@baris Here is an idea, now that you have the breadcrumb / tree working above the topic title > remove the category badge completely from it's position beside the hashtags row
- Removes UI ambiguity between category / hashtags
- Remove UI duplication

@phenomlab Yes of course but I'm always thinking default out of the box bundle for NodeBB, we're in the live sandbox here kinda no???
So pick one to keep. Move on.
