Server requirements for NodeBB

Hi, my host seems unable to serve this groupware for me. What are the main requirements that are different from the standard PHP/MySQL environment? Any cheap providers? Low-price clouds?

Hey @Naturvernforban, you will need nodejs to run NodeBB. You can get a droplet on Digital Ocean for $5 / month to test it out.

@baris Thx. I'm testing the 25MB free service at Redis Labs since 15 minutes ago. Any idea what is counted in those 25MB?

I haven't used Redis Labs before but 25mb should be enough for a small forum, in contrast this forum uses about 45mb of memory for the redis database.

So that's just the text people write, then, and not the scripts etc, like node.js & nodeBB?

That's correct the redis database stores all the posts and user data. The nodejs application itself isn't included in that, the app itself uses around 80mb of ram.

@baris Very good info, thanks. Another newb question: Do the forumware and the redis DB have to run off the same server? And another: Can I easily iframe a NodeBB forum into my existing pages on another server?

You can connect to an external Redis no problem. And yes you can, but for security measures we disable iframe by default. You can set the target URL in the advanced tab in the settings ACP
