Hehe thanks -- we've been going more or less full time on NodeBB since our new marketing site was unveiled. Got some neat things coming up soon

You would have to be spending way too much money to have one VPS per instance, yet you say your are too poor. Those two things don't go together.

I ont host more than one noddbb in 2gb ram, 2,4ghz and 1 core that costs me $5

@jiangcaiyang It works if you do it right. It doesn't take LESS variables, but it does work. Odds are the less styles have higher specificity, so your custom CSS rules are not applied. Use !important or something instead. It will certainly benefit you to not be held back due to incompatibility with newer versions of NodeBB in the future.

You'll probably want NodeBB to run in the foreground, and not pipe output to the log file, if you want to use forever or upstart.

node loader.js --no-silent --no-daemon will run production mode and leave output piping to stdout. It will also run in the foreground, which forever expects.

If you use app.js, you won't need --no-daemon, but you'll only be running one process.

You could make a custom icon just by making a new class in the css file something like
.icon-topcoder {
background-image: url("http://cdn5.iconfinder.com/data/icons/Symbolicons_Transportation/24/Car.png");
background-position: center center;
width: whatever maybe 16px or 32px
height: same as what you put above
}

Or you could make a custom font file
