Authorization Failed NodeBB Setup

    The problem was for some reason MongoDB didn't setup a directory automatically for /data/db and once I created that myself it worked flawlessly. However you do have to remake your users & DB!

    Hello! I've been trying to install NodeBB for the past hour and I keep hitting the same exact road block when run ./nodebb setup as a non-root (or even root) account.

    I've been following this guide: https://docs.nodebb.org/installing/os/debian/

    I'm running Ubuntu Server 16.04 LTS with the latest updates & upgrades, I had 0 errors up until this point.

    mongo -u admin -p mypassword --authenticationDatabase=admin <-- This logs in successfully

    If I don't login with my admin account then I get authentication errors so I know authentication is working, here's my users in my nodebb database:

    I am unsure why this isn't working, I'm not sure what more information to provide but ask away and I'll send. This is a near stock Ubuntu Server installation. ☹

    Try the Ubuntu docs instead of the Debian docs. They're more up to date.

    @01 "it won't open" isn't very descriptive. What is it actually doing? Screenshots are very helpful to convey that info.

    What is your nginx config? Where did you get your https certificates? Have you been following a guide, and if so, which one?

    The folder is probably named /home/nodebb/nodebb not /path/to/nodebb so try. cd /home/nodebb/nodebb to go to the installation directory. If that gives the same error you can list the contents of the /home/nodebb directory by the ls command and find out the real name of the nodebb installation directory.

    So I just built a quick VM locally and followed the guides I mentioned above. Did nothing differently except I didn't install php and apache before and start ripping things out. It works flawlessly. I can only imagine at this point its something with my server and I think I may just wipe it and start clean, using nginx only instead of apache.

    Edit - welp, it works great now. Probably has this whole time. The URL I was using to hit the forums was set to be x.x.132.x, it had to be x.x.135.x. Hey, at least I learned a TON about nodebb and nginx 🙂 I'll take it.

    nothing is listening on port 80 except my nodebb ip.
