Watching updates

There are a few things at play here:
- Category watching preferences are not inherited by child categories
- Topic watching preferences are different from category watching preferences:
Topic watches control whether you get notifications, category watches control whether new posts show up in unread.

OK, so I'm not sure I follow you here, sorry. Under "notifications" I find this: "When a new reply is posted in a topic you are watching". Doesn't' this cover what you have stated since I signed up to receive notification and emails on topics I'm watching?

@ehurt yes on topics you're watching, you should get notifications for new posts. That is, if you haven't disabled the notifications in your user settings.

I have enabled everything. I have it set to receive notifications of everything but I'm only receiving from those I follow. Very strange. I'm having to go into every one of them and change it by hand to "watching" even though I get this message: SUCCESS: You are now watching updates from this category and all subcategories.

@ehurt that message may be incorrect, or we may have a bug.
But I'm still confused as to what your issue is. Do you not get notifications when there's a reply to a topic which you're watching? Watching a category doesn't automatically watch all topics within it.
Or is the issue that topics and posts in categories you're watching don't show up as unread?
Or both?

@ehurt just to be absolutely clear, the topics to which you're referring have the non-crossed-out bell icon, and when you click on it, there's a check mark next to Watching, correct?
