External Links not redirecting properly

I'm using the [link text](link url) function. Once I place a link in (link url) and I try to click on it, it just redirects me to "mywebsite.com/link" instead of opening the link in a new tab or in the same tab.

What is the url you are placing? It works with relative and absolute urls here are two samples

[This goes to recent topics on this forum](/recent) results in -> This goes to recent topics on this forum

[This goes to youtube.com](https://youtube.com) results in -> This goes to youtube.com

Ahh I got @baris I was not using "https://" that was the problem. Thank you for that.

On a side note, how can I make it so that link opens in a tab?

In the plugins page for the markdown plugin you can enable it.
