A new feature I'm not so keen on ...

I'm not criticising the wonderful NodeBB, but sometimes less is more.
Theres a feature with message replies, ifUser1 posts
User 2 repliesyou see a doubling up of that reply as it also appears as a mini reply just under the post, and its also its own post
User 1: Hello ..User2: reply 'Hi' User2: 'Hi'
So my question is what version of Nodebb was this introduced from? Is it only Theme related, or is it a core feature that is difficult to turn off?

I think you mean this one
I personally like it, since I can see replies to a user, in-line and in context. But of course this is just a subjective take.

@eeeee actually I think this is a very useful feature, it shows you all the replies at once when you need them... otherwise, it is impossible to find all the answers very efficiently...
I think this microblog feature was there since the beginning
-
@crazycells exactly. I also like it as its easier to keep track in long topics.

To give some context behind this: NodeBB utilizes a linear view for post content.
In contrast to sites like Reddit that have a threaded model.
There are advantage to both, and problems with both.
What you see in NodeBB when you "expand" the replies to a post, is the direct replies to that post. So in a way you're seeing a hybrid model that shows replies in both a linear and threaded fashion.

Does anyone understand the logic of showing this part?
I've noticed it only shows up sometimes. I.e.
- If a post has 1 reply directly under it AND
- If it has an additional reply to it after the thread
i.e. If there is a gap between a post (other conversation) and the response to it?
Did I miss any other rules?

@julian said in A new feature I'm not so keen on ...:
a post has at least 1 direct reply unless that reply is directly after it in the thread.
This logic makes sense after understanding it. Thanks!
