The difference between NodeBB's Invite-only mechanic and the plugin nodebb-plugin-newuser-invitation
-
@Hao-Lee Using the built-in invitation system either admins and/or users can invite other users to join the forum. Once the invitation system is enabled you will see a "Invite" button on the
/users
page.With the
nodebb-plugin-newuser-invitation
plugin you can give a limited number of invitations to already existing users and they can track the invitations they have / used using a special page in their profile page menu. Admins can invite from the plugins ACP page. -
The difference is the ideas from my plugin were added into nodebb. XD
I also have not been updating it much, since the invite-only is now in core there aren't many users.

Definitely wasn't our intention to make your plugin obsolete!

Colour me pretty but where exactly is this the invite button or native invite functions particularly for Admins?
I canny see 'em captain!

BUMP... can anyone put me out of my misery?
Do I need to activate a plugin or feature to see native invite function or is there a special sequence of events I must observe to invoke the power of invitations when brewing my morning coffee?

There should be a invite button on the /users page when you enable invites in the ACP.
I assume setting "Maximum Invitations per User" in the ACP to something > 0 is enabling invites.
I also might be misunderstanding invites - is the invite function only for groups of already existing users or invites to register on the forum?
-
You set registration type to invite only, and then you can either set "Maximum Invitations per User" to 0 for unlimited invites or to a specific number.
Invites are used to send invitations to people who are not yet registered to the forum. They will receive a unique link and will be able to register through that.

Perfecto!
May I suggest that the INVITE function be available to at least admins permanently?
It's an incredibly useful and powerful feature to encourage registrations, case example, if you pick up a few emails while out networking or have a mail database you'd like to use to drive users to your forum.
or, maybe the plugin handles this?
