Ability to Hide Groups from /groups
-
Before making this an issue on GitHub, I wanted to see if there would be anyone else interested in the functionality to hide usergroups from being shown in the /groups route, or if there was a clean and alternative way to handle this. One of my projects involves classifying users based upon their contributions to the community. While I would like for users to have their group titles shown beneath their names, there's absolutely no reason for users to need to be able to the entire group listing for these specific groups.
Essentially, I'd like to recognize certain groups of users on their merits, but I don't want these specific users to be targeted with specific requests and the like from members who are new to the community; which will inevitably happen given my target audience.

Whoa. I just tested going to /groups/ on a forum using incognito (so I wasn't logged in).
I selected a restricted group that posts to a category that should be hidden from the public and right there under latests posts is a giant listing of a bunch of private recent posts in a restricted forum that no one should be able to see.
That's a pretty huge oversight. Is there a way to quickly patch that so I can disable this, @julian?

@Chris, I'm unable to verify the issue you've described as I have user information set to private on my forum - hence access to /groups requires being logged in (which should force perms). It's worth checking that you don't have any stray guest permissions on that category.

But then all someone needs to do is register and then they can see it. When you restrict a category to a specific user group and try to hide its posts from other registered users, it's still a huge oversight.

@Ted All permissions are fine in that regard.

Anyone have any thoughts on the original post?

Could have done with a little more paragraphing, but otherwise a good read. Would r8 6/8 m8. Would probably recommend to friends and family.
Hopefully me replying to this didn't get your hopes up.
