Bounty Requests
-
@julian We should have a section in the forums to post Bounties for feature requests. Maybe a "Bounty" tag, or something like that.
Quite frankly I fell in love with nodeBB and want to jump at using it for a community I administer. But it lacks some features I know my users will complain about and I am willing to pay someone to create plugins for some of these as I don't have a lot of time to work on these myself.
I personally would have no issue opening these up to the community (if the developer is on board with that idea).I believe it would also encourage new developers to adopt nodeBB.
- Two types of bounties: Open and Private. Open would mean the plugin developed would be opened up to the community for reuse, but the bounty acts as a motivator. Private would mean the end product is for use privately with no redistribution rights.
Some ground rules for this would be:
- Bounties are the responsibility of the users who post them. Developers would need to deal directly with those users.
- Developers need to set clear and concise redistribution rights, if any.
- Developers would be solely responsible to collect the bounties, this community would not be responsible for collecting funds or administering the development process.
A nice to have feature would be to have a plugin developer tag in the profile with a small feedback system....
Suggestions?

Quickly changes poll repo from public to private

I think a "Plugin Requests" category may be useful
The creator may add a tag[bounty]
to gain more attention and if there are no further restrictions the plugin developers may choose to set the plugin open after creation and getting the bounty.
I'd rather not create plugins of which the rights go to the asker but there may be others...
So maybe we can add an inofficial rule that every plugin-request with transmission of rights has to make use of the badge[bounty-of-a-narrow-minded-guy]
or[bounty-of-a-narrow-minded-girl]
therefor I can filter them quickly -
haha, yeah I dunno, at least anything I make I'd like to keep open, but you're all free to do whatever you want

The whole rights thing is a sticky issue and not what I intended to stir up out of this... Only trying to come up with a fair system to entertain both those with, as you put it, "a narrow mind", and those willing to share. In the end its project specific.... developer/requestor will have their own requirements, and it should be left freely to those involved.
I guess if someone wants something private, they should post a job, not a bounty.

On the surface it looks like a good idea, but ultimately, it's a very practice. Once it gets going, very few devs will want to contribute anything meaningful unless there's a bounty.
If you want to make money from your codes, why not make a Free and Pro versions of whatever it is your have in mind. I'm sure everybody knows how that works.

Sounds like the NodeBB philosophy... except we haven't quite gotten around to the "Pro" version yet...
