There was this eerie moment driving home from work late last night where turning into my neighborhood I passed a convoy of slow rolling Trump flag vehicles with very conspicuously armed passengers. I slept on my dad’s floor last night. I know exactly what their point was.

I am not sure that people outside the US who have not had to deal with a similar party leader understand when we say, 'cult', we mean an actual, completely brainwashed cult. Not just racists. Not just people who like strong men or fascism, as exists globally today. An actual cult, where the members are willing to abandon their families and long-time friends, give away their belongings, and even resort to violence. We have to contend with that. It’s astounding how when you talk to good people on mastodon about their industrialized and wealthy country, everything is about how horrible it is. Everyone is dealing with the rise of fascism and climate change, but we have had 50 major school shootings im 2024, our far right is burning ballot boxes, and the worlds richest man is trying to remove our meager healthcare and workers’s rights. So, a lot of places can look better if we go south.I can deal with $2500 a month rent for a small place. I can deal with bad weather. I can deal with boring. I kind of want boring.
