Welcome to the 21st century. You somehow own a brand new Atari 2600. It also somehow needs firmware updates
Updating Atari 2600+ Firmware
Updating the firmware on your Atari 2600+ or Atari 7800+ is a quick and easy process. Depending on your computer setup, you might have to proceed with an Admin password for portions of the installation process. This process will update your console to firmware version 2.0.

The only firmware updates anyone was getting in 1977 involved snorting a line of coke off an avocado-colored ottoman
-
@jalefkowit I wonder how many 2600 games worth of data the firmware is
-
@jalefkowit also positively REELING that some of the images in the guide are photos of a monitor, but *only* some
-
@SnoopJ IIRC, most 2600 cartridges held 4KB. Updating the 2600+ firmware requires downloading a 59MB ZIP file

@jalefkowit I remember getting really excited about this a few years ago and seriously considering buying one

@vivianshadows From what I hear, if you want to play Atari 2600 carts on a modern TV, the 2600+ is a pretty good option.
(And if you have any 7800 carts lying around, it'll play those too. You don't have to wait for the upcoming 7800+.)
Atari 2600 Plus Review: A Modern Throwback
An updated version of the original Atari home console, the 2600 Plus can connect to modern high-definition TVs.
