After close consideration we have come to the decision to block Threads.net instance wide on all related instances
-
I understand it's rough to lose accounts you follow from Threads but unfortunately it is not worth the risk
Hopefully people on Threads will realize the true origin of the company running their platform and will make the decision to join us here in the Fediverse ️
I really really tried making this work but I cannot go any further
Mark Zuckerberg is a person I cannot and will not with with in any way. Sorry not sorry
-
@stux indeed, although I expect anyone on threads unhappy with the choices will instead move to bluesky. ️
The majority remaining just won't care. -
Some people may wonder why it's now and not before and I would like to try and explain as good as I can
We are a relative large instance in the Fediverse so that comes with a lot of responsibility in making decisions. One of our main goals is safety but we also want to be open and connective until a certain point
Threads promised to be different and we always kept it with a grain of salt but did let the people decide if they wanted to block or not
The new policy is just far over the fine line

Very courageous to block the largest ActivityPub instance!
From which I've had 0 followings and 0 followers.

@stux Thank you for this clear decision and thank you for explaining the reasons in this open and transparent way for all federati to see. It is (IMHO) the absolute right decision.

@stux maybe only 100 followers but those of us who follow decent people on threads have now lost being able to see them. Why block those who aren't the problem? Seems short-sighted to me. Are the majority of posters on threads a problem? if not then why not individual blocks for offenders? It's like blocking everyone that lives in a "red" state, including those who don't vote that way.

@stux Unfortunately many business and companies have a small team, and they will always go where the engagement rate is highest, not what is the best platform. We had to ask #TheGreenParty to turn on federation option so that we can network with them even after a long time of asking them to do the right thing and #JoinMastodon, they have joined #bluesky. The networking effect is the biggest at play, and many more people will likely leave Mastodon for Bluesky.

@NorthantsGreens @stux But this just makes the Northamptonshire Greens the best greens because you stuck around here.

@matt @stux Well many thanks for your support. We don't like Facebook or bigtech either, nor take corporate donations either. Thus, we are able to act in the electorates interests. A bit like a partner rather than an adversary. We are asking those on Bluesky to follow Bridgy fed as it boosts everyone's engagement. Win-win.

My spouse and her groups are all moving to Bsky. Couldn't get them to understand Mastodon or the fediverse and everyone they know jumped to bluesky because it seemed more familiar and most people they already knew were on it. There doesn't seem to be an equivalent to the "marketplace" there though, one of the main things they use it for.

@Haikyoneko @cainmark @ivor Well yes and no
If you setup a PDS you still rely on a BIG part of the Bsky services for it to even work
Not by a loooong shot is it something standalone like Mastodon for example
-
@Haikyoneko @cainmark @ivor Here's a nice sum up from many of them: https://status.bsky.app/
Not all but a lot, that are needed for your self-hosted "server" to even work

@Haikyoneko @stux @cainmark @ivor If you're interested in a detailed evaluation on how decentralized or not BlueSky is, Christine has done one: https://social.coop/@cwebber/113527462572885698
