@wdlindsy Cool but can we stop mentioning "Kamala" all the time and say "Harris"?
She's going to be President Harris, not President Kamala. The right is pushing for using her first name because it 1) focus on the fact that she's a woman and 2) tries to diminish her professionalism.
Harris please.

I believe what you have noted is a fact. (wow that statement took guts!).
I also believe it will continue,
compounded by AI, to the point where there are so many versions of the facts that the truth will become near non-existent.Then, as optimistically noted by GP Harrison in the "Skeptical Inquirer", AI and misinformation could force us into a long overdue cognitive upgrade, where we wake up, grow up and become more rational species.
Looking for the Bright Side of the AI Apocalypse | Skeptical Inquirer
Rumors of impending artificial intelligence (AI) doom got you down? Take heart, there may be light at the end of this tunnelâand not all of it from the head ...

@wdlindsy Yeah, fair. If I were to meet Giles face-to-face, I'd thank him for his integrity, not condemn him for supporting everything Trump did short of a coup attempt.
-
@Thad And I do agree with you that we should call all these Republicans who are now seeing the light to examine their legacies and see how in many ways they made decisions and advocated for policies that paved the way for Trump.

@Stinson_108 Thank you for that. There's a good article by Margaret Sullivan in today's Guardian about Luttig's support of Kamala Harris.

Lifelong conservative Republican Michael Luttig states why, though his policy outlook may differ from Kamala Harris', he will cast his vote for her:
"Almost four years ago now, on January 6, 2021, a stake was driven through the heart of Americaâs Democracy, and on that day American Democracy was left teetering on a knifeâs edge."

This presidential election is a test of Americansâ commitment to Americaâs Democracy, the Constitution, and the Rule of Law. It is so because the former president and the Republican Party have shamefully made it so."

"The often lofty, at times even noble, policy differences that have been the hallmark of American Politics and partisan debate for almost a quarter of a millennium pale in comparison to the foundational national policy issues of Americaâs Democracy, Constitution, and Rule of Law."

"J Michael Luttig has never endorsed a Democrat before. Thatâs no surprise since the well-respected legal scholar â a retired federal appeals court judge â leans well right of center. âŠ
In an interview with CNN, which first reported his endorsement, Luttig explained that arriving at his decision to back Harris wasnât complicated."

What matters to Michael Luttig is getting past January 2025 with democracy intact. We can argue later about how to govern

Simple? Maybe so, but also admirable. And at this singular moment for US democracy, all too rare."

@dom Where have I used just her given name? I'm not aware I've done that in anything I've posted myself. If you can point me to such a posting, I'll correct it. I make a point of always calling her by her full name.

"Faith abounds at the Democratic National Convention, but donât be surprised. Trump staffers have called the left âgodless,â but this yearâs DNC painted a very different picture."
Jack Jenkins cites Sen. Raphael Warnock:
âI think itâs important, particularly for those of us in the Democratic Party, to be full-throated in the ways our faith informs our values. Weâve got to be full-throated in resisting this idea of Christian nationalism.â

"The right is clearly worried about the power of the Obamas to tip the battle for the White House in favor of the Democrats. Over on Fox, Jesse Watters, who believes Barack Obama is the OG destroyer of the GOP, even demanded a new investigation into Obamaâs birth certificate, which is about as appalling and desperate a move as I can imagine.
Sorry, Jesse. Itâs going to take more than your whining to take down these dragons."

In the month since Joe Biden endorsed Kamala Harris to be the nominee to replace him, the concerns that America is not ready to elect a Black woman President have largely been silenced. And then Michelle Obama declared the Presidency "a Black job."

"When people said the US was not ready for the first Black woman president, [I responded] that with Dobbs on the ballot, with fascism on the ballot, after several elections in which Black women voters saved the country, a Black woman candidate may be the most logical choice. ...
Being bested by a smart, beautiful Black woman may be precisely the Kryptonite to Trumpâs power the country has been looking for."
