Having second thoughts about creating a #Fediverse platform. I was not aware of the levels of toxicity on #Mastodon by users (even admins) who don't understand how federation protocols work and harass developers with false accusations and even uploading child porn to their websites to get them in legal trouble. No, thank you.

@santisbon I think that is a problem and we need to get better at it.
However, there are over 100 software projects tracked in fedidb.org. It's definitely possible to start a project.

@[email protected] don't be deterred! If you are transparent about what you're doing then there's nothing to worry about.
I've been developing out in the open and experienced exactly none of the toxicity of outlined in that article.
I'm continually wary of it, though. I'm sure @[email protected] still has some scars from his last experience!

@santisbon I'd like to second what others are saying here. Yes, fediverse folks can be very protective. That's because the fediverse was built by the most vulnerable of people who've dealt with all kinds of abuse and harassment on corporate platforms where not many stood up for them.
