"For days, reporters have trotted out the notion that the most important thing Harris needed to accomplish tonight was introducing herself to American voters. That was underestimating her again, and overestimating their own competence."

"If voters don’t know the real Kamala Harris, it’s the fault of a lazy media that seized on gossip about staffing issues and campaign intrigue going back to her admittedly flawed 2020 presidential campaign.
But Harris has been hiding in plain sight, guys. You just didn’t see her."

"Democrats featured Joe Biden, Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, and Bill Clinton—that’s all but two of the living Democratic presidential nominees going back to 1992.
The Republican convention featured no former presidential nominees."

"The state of the Republican party is so toxic that previous nominees—even previous presidents—have been unpersoned and read out of the movement.
That’s a portrait of two institutions: One institution in harmony with its legacy and continuing to evolve in such a way as to hold its coalition together. The other institution in a state of convulsion."

And suddenly all the media outlets are concerned about "policy." Which they didn't give a tinker's damn about when they were howling for Biden's scalp. Trump's policies are clear -- Project 2025, but they never seem to talk about that.
Harris's policies are also pretty clear, same as we have been seeing over the past 4 years. Maybe a tweak or two, maybe different names in the cabinet (whose names will barely be mentioned again after the Senate confirmations.)
Basically nothing has changed from a policy point of view from a year ago.

"Fascists appropriate national symbols & values. Kamala Harris & Tim Walz are taking them back. …
The vast majority of Americans are tired of the psyops, the propaganda, the hatred and the lies. I’m seeing people on the margins make a change, people who are tired of fascist performance art being all we talk about.
Make America Normal Again."

"Kamala Harris, who reminded us that her client has always been “the people,” is in the biggest courtroom of her life, the defendant she faces admits his guilt every time he opens his mouth, and he will take the stand to face her brilliance and wrath when they debate next month. If I were Donald Trump, I would start looking for beachfront property in Brazil."

/30Raise your right hand: We are all jurors now
Well, the Democratic Party’s prosecutor-in-chief gave her closing argument last night, urging the jury to find the defendant, Donald Trump, guilty as charged. The whole time Vice President Kamala Harris was speaking last night, I was thinking how glad I am that I was never on the receiving end of one of her prosecutorial orations. This is a woman who has been in the legal trenches for decades, and as she reminded us last night, she has dealt with child abusers and murderers and the worst kind of criminals anyone could imagine. She didn’t have to say “I know his type” about Trump in her acceptance speech. It was so evident that she knows exactly who she’s running against and how guilty he is that it practically rose off her like steam.

"In spite of all the tall talk and all the immense literature, for the last 60 years, about emancipation of labor, no sooner do the working men anywhere take the subject into their own hands with a will, than uprises at once all the apologetic phraseology of the mouthpieces of present society with its two poles of capital and wages-slavery (the landlord now is but the sleeping partner of the capitalist)…"

@rvinson Since your comment addresses nothing I see in this thread, I'm going to assume it's a generic comment equating Kamala Harris and Donald Trump. So you want to go back, with present-day Republicans, to a period when child labor is the norm? To the absolute control of labor by capital, with the former having no rights and the latter having all rights? I'm not going back to all of that without strongly resisting.

@MylesRyden Great comments. Yes, most of them wouldn't know a policy if it bit them in the derriere. It's all about finding any cudgel they can find to beat Kamala Harris with, while pretending that this extraordinary scrutiny of a Black woman — as these same folks give Trump carte blanche to blather and lie endlessly — has nothing at all to do with racism and misogyny.

Unpopular opinion between you me and the walls.
Kinda looks like a cult of personality on both sides here. Apparently no one was interested when an old white guy (who has actually been pretty effective given Congress) was running against outright fascism.
But suddenly when a younger woman is running the same policies against the same fascism, enthusiasm is sky high. I get that presidential politics is a lot about identity and personality, but can we at least admit that?
Won't be surprised if I have to delete this post sometime later.

@MylesRyden But it makes sense to me that people unenthusiastic about a match-up all over again between two aged white men would be enthusiastic when a younger Black woman comes along as one of the candidates.

Unfortunately, this is a feature of Canadian politics:
"There has never been a period in American history in which one political party gave up on the popular vote and sought to win power purely as a minority party."
