Woa! I didn't know the prices for managed hosting were so high
It is the price for not having to worry about anything. You need to think of the cost of the solution versus the time saved by not having to manage it.

@teh_g if you have a problem to dedicate 5 minutes a week to your infrastructure you shouldn't be running a website.
The reason why the price is so high was explained by @julian to me some while ago. The NodeBB team itself is not directly targeted towards profit and therefore prefers to have a "smaller pool" of customers. They help to bring the project forward, while leaving the team enough spare time to execute their main task and thats to develop.
Imagine if the hosting would cost just 20$ a month. Many people would use it and then you would have to deal with all these customers and as soon as you hire someone you basically could have saved yourself a lot of stress, because then you make 0 profit at all.

Thanks @pichalite. Sorry, I cannot find any hardware and bandwidth specification. Was it indicated somewhere but i have missed?
-
@Bruce-Lee it's not indicated. You can contact [email protected] for more information.

@Bruce-Lee The idea of a managed solution is that you do not need to worry about anything. Technical issues such as bandwidth and hardware specifications are dealt with by the hosting party. They are responsible for running things smoothly, as long as you're within the plan (i.e. your plan matches the monthly pageviews requirement).
Of course asking for technical detials is valid; in that case consult the answer above. -

It depends a lot on how active the forum is. I was running into some issues with my deployment due to activity. It stemmed some good discussions here:

@teh_g you don't have to worry about that if you are paying them to manage it.
It looked like @Bruce-Lee was asking about some of the hardware specs if he wasn't going to go with managed hosting.
If my forum gets much bigger, I will probably go with managed hosting out of part laziness and part wanting to support you guys.

To be honest there are only 3 reasons when to use managed services:
- You do not know any better
- You are too lazy
- It is cheaper (rarely; only for enterprises commonly)
Using NodeBB's managed service would cost me 750$ just for my forum alone. Not even to mention "side" applications like a CMS or a few static HTML pages.
If I would count the traffic costs in (DO based calculation) the plan wouldn't be affordable for me.
Assuming I just need the +5M PV plan for 750$ it still would mean that I pay more than 720-730$ more than for my current system, while losing many benefits of a dedicated setup.
Another example, imagine I would have NodeBB on all my sites and those I manage (+90). Sometimes a rented server might not be an option anymore. Maybe you want more scalability and therefore actually need a cloud server, but it is too expensive. Or maybe it is sensitive data which you want to keep out of the cloud for security reasons.
Lets take it even further. Despite the massive one time costs a server brings, you will even have to hire someone to monitor that one machine (usually you use a cluster, so you actually have +2 machines). Now you could have costs of approximately 3500-5000$ compared to 750$.Sure in the above case with multiple sites you would have to take 750*90. But imagine you have one big site with the same amount of visitors. Then it makes sense and actually saves you tons of ash.
Some might ask himself now:
"Why don't you do it better then?"
First of all I am not that desperate for cash, second I won't be the dickface who steals useful funds.
