Immigration physical: the worst experience, I need a hug, I more relevantly need an affidavit my name and samples were not mixed up with someone else, apparently everyone is mad my name isn’t a different name they chose for me, and I have apologized for all of it. I should have flown to Toronto…

@hacks4pancakes Oh joy, I remember my physical when I was applying for permanent residence in the US, half a lifetime ago.
I was not prepared for how much STD testing they were doing. [blankly stares off into the distance]

@Legit_Spaghetti I didn’t get STD, I got … I’m genuinely not sure what got tested

@hacks4pancakes I mean, as long as they didn't have a nice gentleman measuring your skull with calipers and muttering to himself about bumps and modules...

@Legit_Spaghetti … they took my BP which I’m sure was a billion. They looked at my prescription and asked when I first started taking it. They weighed me and took my height. They drew blood. I ️🩹️ in little of this did they ask about my medical or physical history?

@hacks4pancakes Ah, that sounds pretty standard then. Unless they drew like a dozen vials of blood, they are most likely just checking that you're not carrying any communicable diseases like tuberculosis, typhoid, that type of thing. So their threat model is simply "is this person going to get anyone sick," and they don't care about much beyond that. Which I'd view as a good sign.

@Legit_Spaghetti I hope that’s the case. They didn’t even look at my vaccine records. Of course I’ve had all of them promptly.

@hacks4pancakes This sounds like both immigration physicals I've done in the past (US and Canada), fwiw. They looked for a small set of specific 19th century diseases, and then a very general vibe check of "are you healthy enough to work", which both times for me ended up being a very light taking of the vitals and general eyeing me up and down and going "eh, you walked in, have a pulse and showed up on time, that'll do."
I hope you get happy news soon!
